The presidential commission on education has presented a report concerning the evaluation of the Romanian education system. Basescu, President of Romanian concluded that the Romanian education system is inefficient, inequitable and its quality is lower than the European standards.

President of Romania, Mr. Basesecu presented the report of the presidential commission on education, underlying the low quality of Romanian education system, to an audience composed of ex-ministers, leaders of trade companies and  students as well.
According to the report, school drop-outs in Romania are twice as high as the European average and the Romanian system is inequitable. In the rural education only 24 % of potential students attend secondary education. 80 % of Roma children are not involved in the public education system further more, 38% of them are illiterate.
Mr. Basesecu also warned on the presence of discrimination in schools, while Romanian infrastructure has a weak quality and teachers are poorly qualified.
“These are exceptions and it is important to engage all the resources and energies of the whole society”. –says Basesecu.
Romanian education system is weaker than any of the neighboring EU Member states. He argued that Romanian students are specialized in domains that Europeans did not want to do anymore. According to the president, the solution would be to put more focus more on preschool aged children (0-6 years).

One of the ideas for solving the warning situation would be the elimination of national tests and vocational trainings schools, besides ensuring tuition free education, and access to high schools without entrance exams.
The President mentioned that the report did not have any relation with the results of the baccalaureate exam, as the provability at the baccalaureate exam was 82.08%.
