Early Childhood Care and Development for Roma Children in Albania – Save the Children

OTHER GOOD RESULTS FROM THE SAVE THE CHILDREN’S PROJECT:

FOOD:

Provision of breakfast and warm lunch to 304 children in kindergartens in Fier and Elbasan has not only helped to improve the children’s health status through regular consumption of appropriate diet but has also served as a good incentive to increase attendance rate and to signal the parents about the importance of healthy food provision for their children.

COMMITMENT OF THE MUNICIPALITIES:

By the end of the project, both municipalities of Fier and Elbasan have officially committed cost sharing for continuation of the food provision for Roma children in both kindergartens, thus subsidizing up to 30% of costs.

NEW SKILLS:

238 Roma mothers of 410 children (age 0-6 years) have acquired reading skills thanks to their participation in the so-called „Your Story” program, having a direct impact in increased interaction with children through reading books to them as well as fostering a book reading culture at home.
