Objective of the call

The objective of the call is to select partner organization for the implementation of early childhood development and primary education project activities in Turkey.

The objective of the financial support is to: improve Roma children’s access to preschool education, facilitate access and enrollment of Roma children into mainstream primary schools, support the academic progress of children enrolled, and, in addition, support Roma children in education in respect to needed mitigation of the negative consequences of the COVID-19 and its potential reoccurring. Moreover, the activities will contribute to strengthening the link between the parents and educational institutions.

Particular attention will be paid to ensuring that partners are aware of a gender-sensitive approach and to apply it in the project implementation.

There will be one grant awarded in the country of operations.

Geographical coverage

Eligible geographical areas for the project are: Turkey – Mersin, Edirne, Tekirdağ, İzmir, Ankara and Istanbul.

Note: The applicant needs to take into consideration during the selection of specific locations that the proposed project activities cannot take place at those locations where there is currently an on-going REF supported project.

Target group:

The target groups of the project are as follows:

  • Roma children of pre-primary age (0-6) and Roma parents:
    • Total number of children: at least 80
    • Total number of parents: at least 60
  • Roma children of the 1st and 2nd grades of primary school:
    • Total number of children: at least 80
