REF’s Recommitment to Change in 2022

As we are witnessing the deteriorating realities of Roma communities, an increasingly ethno-nationalistic political and policy environment, and the decreasing of political will for pro-Roma policies, the Roma Education Fund must rethink its strategy and institutional impact. Together with our stakeholders, REF will enter a new phase of institutional transformation, dialogue and development.

“Investment to support Roma education must be adjusted and adapted to the social realities of compact Roma communities. This is the natural next step forward and it will be built on the positive experience of the Roma Education Fund in enhancing access to education and the educational performance of Roma communities. As we cannot use the same approach and expect different results, we need to change”, said Ciprian Necula, Chair of REF’s board.
