In the past couple of weeks, the media and the civil discourse was loud reacting to Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s statements dismissing the legally binding court verdict on the segregation of Roma children in Gyöngyöspata. Viktor Orban incited antipathy against Roma and integrated education. The Prime Minister used the court’s verdict as an opportunity to scapegoat and intensify hatred aimed at Roma, and disregard democratic principles, the rule of law and the independence of the Hungarian judicial branch.
Along these violations of rights and principles, the Ide Tartozunk Egyesulet organization, and partner organizations such as the Roma Education Fund, stood in alliance and participated in a demonstration on February 23. Together we release a joint statement describing our demands:

Joint statement of supporting organizations
The Government has interfered in a legally binding verdict regarding the Gyöngyöspata segregation civil lawsuit. This unlawful conduct justifies our joint action.
We call upon Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and Member of the Parliament, Laszlo Horvath, to step back regarding the sue for damages and uphold the verdict of the courts.
Pay the compensation!
The independence of judges and courts must be inviolable for all! Judges are subject only to the law and cannot be instructed in their judicial actions – as this guaranteed element is fixed in Hungary’s Fundamental Law (Constitution).
The Prime Minister’s and Laszlo Horvath’s statements have strengthened antigypsyism, making it more visible, indirectly, giving extremist right-wing paramilitary organizations permission to intimidate the population. This cannot go on!
To peg people against each other with the aim of gaining political benefits is a betrayal of the nation!
Guarantee peace for Roma communities including the families of Gyöngyöspata!
Hungary forgets! Hungary does not want to remember what tragedies hate politics have led to. It is our moral obligation to prevent the prevailing authorities from forgetting the names of the six innocent victims who were murdered in the 2008-2009 racist serial killings. Their tragic fate committed solely due to their Roma origin.
We demand that February 23, the day of the Tatárszentgyörgy tragedy, become part of the national remembrance politics! Allocate state resources for the organization of memorial services, such as for memorials, memory preserving events, memory preserving texts and publications!

A kormányzat a gyöngyöspatai szegregációs kártérítési per kapcsán jogerős ítélettel elbírált ügybe avatkozott be. Ez a törvénysértő magatartás indokolja az egységes fellépésünket.
Felszólítjuk Orbán Viktor miniszterelnököt, és Horváth László parlamenti képviselőt, hogy lépjenek hátra a kártérítési per vonatkozásában, tartsák be a bíróságok döntését!
Fizessék ki a kártérítést!
A bírók, a bíróságok függetlensége mindenki számára legyen sérthetetlen! A bírák csak a törvénynek vannak alárendelve, és ítélkezési tevékenységükben nem utasíthatók – ahogy ezt a garanciális elemet Magyarország Alaptörvénye is rögzíti.
A miniszterelnök és Horváth László kijelentései nyomán erősödött, láthatóbbá vált a cigányellenesség, áttételesen engedélyt kaptak a szélsőjobboldali, félkatonai szervezetek a lakosság megfélemlítésére. Ez nem mehet így tovább!
Az emberek egymással szembeállítása politikai haszonszerzés céljával a nemzet elárulása!
Szavatolják a roma közösségek, köztük a gyöngyöspatai családok békéjét!
Magyarország felejt! Magyarország nem akar emlékezni arra, hogy milyen tragédiákhoz vezet a gyűlöletpolitika! Erkölcsi kötelességünk megakadályozni, hogy a mindenkori hatalom feledésbe kényszeríthesse a 2008-2009-es években elkövetett rasszista sorozatgyilkosság hat ártatlan áldozatának a nevét és a roma származásuk okán bekövetkezett sorstragédiájukat!
Követeljük, hogy február 23., a tatárszentgyörgyi tragédia napja, kerüljön be a nemzeti (nemzedéki) emlékezetpolitikába! Rendeljenek állami forrásokat emlékezetszervezésre, mint emlékállítások, emlékezetmegőrző események, emlékezetmegőrző-szövegek, publikációk megszületéséhez.
