Roma Education Fund Slovakia is implementing a mentoring and tutoring support program for Roma pupils from Banska Bystrica, Kosice and Presov region supported by the Ministry of Interior. The total amount of the program that runs from December 2018 – November 2021 is EUR 611 906.40. 60 mentors are involved in three self – governing regions spanning across 41 localities and reaching 180 Roma pupils in transitioning successfully from elementary school to secondary education.
Further social outcomes of program are: increased self-confidence; improved communication between schools and Roma parents; mentor driven interventions to change approach and expectations of schools towards Roma pupils; higher motivation of children and their parents to continue their studies at secondary schools; 60 mentors trained, 84% being Roma.
