REF Romania, Dedicated to Strengthening Roma Community Resilience in Romania for 14 Years

Roma Education Fund (REF) Romania, an organization established in 2009, has been an integral part of the REF Network since its inception. Operating from Bucharest, REF Romania was founded by the Roma Education Fund in Switzerland. The team’s unwavering commitment lies in bridging the educational disparities between Roma and non-Roma students.

In 2023, REF has developed a new strategy. As so, education becomes the main tool for developing resilient Roma communities.  The new vision of the organization is to create a supportive environment for every child, young person, and parent with whom REF works, empowering them to develop personal resilience in rapidly changing societies. REF’s aim is to instill confidence and a sense of belonging, and to encourage active participation within their communities while emphasizing the importance of education as a catalyst for growth and development.

On this day, October 9, REF Romania is celebrating 14 years of activity. During the 10th anniversary celebration in 2019, the distinguished presence of Romania’s President, Mr. Klaus Iohannis, added to the significance of the event.

Today, the Romanian team joyfully presents a comprehensive report covering the remarkable achievements of the past 14 years. This document highlights their distinctive initiatives, innovative tools, and outstanding educational programs developed throughout this period.

Their initiatives position them as one of the most influential organizations dedicated to serving the Roma communities in Romania and neighbouring countries.
