Roma VET Students and Young Adults from Albania Can Apply for a Scholarship in the WinForVET Project

The Application for the second phase of the WinForVET project is open only for VET schools in the targeted regions: Tirana, Durres, Elbasan, Fier, Berat, Gjirokaster, and Korca.   

SELECTION/ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

• Roma students must openly declare their ethnic origin;
• Attending a VET school or have recently enrolled;
• Submitting the requested documents if accepted in the program:
• identification document;
• enrollment certificate;
• proof of attending VET (Vocational Education and Training) Schools;
• list of grades;

In the current academic year, REF’s local partner Roma Versitas Albania (RVA) plans to recruit 100 beneficiaries. During the first year of the project, RVA received 158 applications for scholarships but only 58 Roma VET Students and Young Adults have met the eligibility criteria – 22 of them were female.

The project “Education, Employment, Partnerships and Gender Equality: A Winning Formula for Roma in Vocational Education and Training” is implemented by Roma Education Fund (REF), Roma Versitas Kosovo (RVK) and Roma Versitas Albania (RVA) and is funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation.


The WinForVET Scholarships in Kosovo*

The application for the second phase of the WinForVET project was open only for VET schools in seven municipalities of Kosovo – Prishtina, Gracanica, Fushe Kosovo, Ferizaj, Prizren, Peja, and Gjakova,  

128 Roma students and young adults from Kosovo applied for scholarships in year II of the WinForVET project. During the 2021-2022 academic year, REF’s local partner Roma Versitas Kosovo (RVK) is planning to enroll only 60 beneficiaries in secondary VET education and 40 beneficiaries in VET training/courses.

In the previous academic year (2020-2021) RVK delivered 50 scholarships, 30 of which to female students. The scholarships were awarded to 40 beneficiaries in secondary VET schools and  10 young adults in VET. Last year, RVK received 263 applications.


WinForVET focuses on strengthening of professional skills of beneficiaries through mentoring, vocational training, internships, development of vocational skills, and cooperation and partnerships with employers. The project goals are to facilitate access to vocational education for Roma youth and young adults, especially for Roma girls and women, as well as to enhance employability for Roma youth and young adults through paid internships, professional development and fostering partnerships among civil society, public and private sector institutions towards workforce inclusion of Roma. Scholarships and tuition fees are also available to young adults interested in attending some of the short courses in vocational education.
