Training for Mentors under the project „Employment Empowerment of Young Roma – phase 2“, implemented by REF Serbia

REF Serbia has recently organized a training for mentors from Vojvodina, as a part of the Secondary Scholarship and Mentorship Program within the project „Employment Empowerment of Young Roma – phase 2“. While the trainings for mentors from Central and South Serbia were held in August and September, the training for mentors from Vojvodina was organized on 8th and 9th October.

The aim of the training for mentors is to reduce the dropout rate, improve academic achievements and the overall number of Roma secondary school graduates.

Mentors are either teachers, or another pedagogical staff, or psychologists employed in the secondary schools which are attended by the scholarship beneficiaries. The mentors have been appointed by the school principal to work with the scholarship recipients. Teachers become mentors after completing trainings for mentors called „Mentorship Support for Roma Secondary School Students in Successful School Completion“.

The training for mentors consists of three modules, accredited by the Institute for Improvement of Education of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia– as the first module is called „Introduction to the Mentor’s Role“, the second module is „The Mentoring Practice with a Student“ and the third module is „The Role of Mentors in Strengthening Life Skills and Competencies Essential for the Employment of Scholars“.
